PROJECTS   LAB   ABOUT

PARTICIPATION

My understanding of the visual arts is closely linked to experimentation, discovery, lifelong learning, context, teamwork and joy.
That is why I have the need to combine the production of art projects made by myself with collaborative projects where participation, mutual learning and knowledge sharing are the basis for their development.
In these projects I take part as an art-maker, social designer, art director, cultural manager or mediator, working together with other artists, creative labs, local projects and social initiatives.

ARTISTS RESIDENCY
2024

For two weeks I participated in Multimadeira, a temporary residency for artists in Madeira (Portugal). During this time I started a project that captures natural environments not only through sound, still and moving images but also through other abstract, technical and scientific parameters such as temperature, altitude, wind speed and direction, humidity and pressure, related to less frequent sensorial characteristics in the representation and perception of our environment through art.

We are a group of blind and sighted artists. During the Easter vacations, we are offering an inclusive art project in Kreuzberg, Tempelhof and Neukölln.

Through various artistic media such as audio, video and drawing, we can visualize, set to music, sketch, model and share memories. Which place in Berlin do you associate with a special experience? Would you like to show it to us? How can we immerse ourselves in your memories there together?

PARTICIPATORY ART PROJECT IN PUBLIC SPACE
2023

Waves of concrete invade the city and in summer not everyone can escape. We don´t need Mallorca or Sardinia. We found another Island in the city but we need a raft to arrive there.

As part of the “Nature Culture Strategies” program, Thikwa artists and Kreuzberg neighbours are invited to build their own wooden raft with which they will arrive at Floating Island, an oasis of commoning in a rainwater retention lake in the city of Berlin.

WHAT COLOUR IS THE FLOATINGCultural mediator, artist
SITE-SPECIFIC PROJECT
2022

Is the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) really black, the Roter Berg (Red Mountain) in Vienna red and the Blaue See (Blue Lake) in Heidensee blue? What do the colors of the Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall) in Berlin, the blue houses in Chefchaouen in Morocco or La Muralla Roja (The Red Wall) of Calpe in Spain symbolize?

Color is a fundamental aspect of the representation of a place and influences the people who inhabit or visit it. Sometimes color is even used consciously and symbolically in urban spaces and sometimes it is given by the characteristics of the environment in natural spaces.

We ask ourselves: what is the color of Floating University?
As part of the "One Day Artists in Residence" program, Thikwa artists will use photographs to represent the color of Floating University from an individual and subjective perspective. The photographs of all artists will be shown as one complete work at a large distance from the audience, so that the main result will not be the individual photographs, but the color created by all of them in its entirety.

In 6 hours we made 100 photographs at Floating University, printed them and classified them by colors. We made a color wheel with all of them and exhibited it during the Autumn Neighbourhood Weekend.

Commissioned by: Floating Universityn in cooperation with: Thikwa Werkstatt Participants: Debrecina Arega, Atalay Dogan, Deniz Dogan, Louis Edler, Hannah Grzimek, Konstantin Langenick, Álvaro Martínez-Alonso, Frank Schulz, Sammy Serag and Antonia Strobl.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
2023

In 2023 I organized AIRe (Artist In Residence: españa) in Madrid and I invited Torsten Holzapfel, one of the artists of Thikwa Werkstatt für Theater und Kunst.
AIRe was a pilot project whose main objective was to put an art residence for artists with disabilities into practice and to obtain the necessary support to facilitate more residency periods like this for other artists like Torsten.

During that trip Torsten visited in Madrid important places for his inspiration and artistic production but also for his life experience and personal enjoyment such as the Madrid subway lines or the Railroad Museum, the major museums in Madrid such as Reina Sofia, TBA21 or Prado and the beautiful Retiro Park or the old streets of the city. Torsten also met new friends, artists and representatives of cultural initiatives in Madrid such as Goethe Institut or Debajo del Sombrero among others.

WORKSHOP, SITE-SPECIFIC ART PROJECT IN PUBLIC SPACE AND EXHIBITION
2021

After being commissioned by Haus Bastian (State Museums of Berlin) to conduct an inclusive art workshop for artists with disabilities, I decided together with the participating artists to use this opportunity to conduct an activist workshop:
After a screen-printing workshop, the participant artists made their own posters with images of their artworks and the message: OUTSIDER ARTISTS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT OUTSIDE, which they stuck up in the open air streets near the Museum Island of Berlin, calling for a space for artists with disabilities in State Museums of Berlin.

A visit organised with a Team of State Museums of Berlin was "guided", following this map, to take a walk through the places where, in an open-air exhibition and without an official permission, their posters were shown.

URBAN INTERVENTION FOR SOCIAL INCLUSION
Invited artist
CULTURAL WORKERS IN RESIDENCE
2014

The project brings together participants from 7 European countries and engages them in a seminar where they learn how urban interventions can be used to build and sustain social cohesion and self-development.

Participants came from organizations like NGOs, community centres, youth clubs, etc. Through their participation in the seminar, they discover and learn different forms of street art/urban intervention and put them into practice. Within an atmosphere of creative, experimental discovery participants learnt various practices like i.e. poster or graffiti art and invisible theatre.

The goal of the project was to provide participants with the necessary skills and competencies to promote the inclusion of young people in their local communities through the methods and tools provided by the practice of urban intervention and social performance
