Álvaro Martínez Alonso has a BA-MA in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia studying also Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao 2008-09) and Time-based Art at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule (Halle, Germany 2009-10).

He has also a Degree in Art Restoration by the University of Burgos specialising in painting and sculpture (2001-05).

Based on personal experiences, the context, and the relationships he lives, Álvaro approaches close issues of an emotional nature from a social and contemporary perspective with which a wider audience can quickly identify themselves.

He usually works with documentary images and photo essays focusing on the implicit meaning that can be given to them using visual metaphors, stereotypes, and other rhetorical tools.

Álvaro usually materializes his projects in formats well known to the general audience, traditionally considered functional, and characterized by a specific aesthetic linked to non-artistic disciplines such as archiving, cataloging, cartography, or even bureaucracy.

LAB - Álvaro combines his own artistic production working also as an artist, maker, social designer, art director, cultural manager and cultural mediator with artists, local projects and social initiatives such as:
