Álvaro Martínez Alonso has a BA-MA in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain 2010) studying also Time-based Art at the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, and Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule in Halle, Germany.

He has also a Bachelor's Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Burgos specialising in painting and sculpture (2005).

LAB - Álvaro combines his own artistic production by collaborating in participatory and non-discriminatory art projects in which Álvaro works as an artist, maker, social designer, art director, cultural manager and art mediator together with museums, other artists, local projects and educational, social and cultural initiatives such as:

Haus Bastian (Staatliche Museen Berlin), Floating University, Archipel e.V, Theater ThikwA, Galerie ARTCRU, GlogauAIR Artists In Residence, Theater an der Parkaue, Alice Salomon Hochschule, Young Arts NeuköllnFreiraumlabor, Inartdis Projekt, Berlin Mondiale, ExMe Theater Expedition Metropolis, Terre des Femmes, Kulturnetzwerk Neukölln, Kulturmühle Perwenitz among others.

He has also worked as an art handler, operations manager, cultural manager and artist's assistant for Ai Weiwei Studio (Berlin, Germany), König Gallery (Berlin, Germany), Musealia (San Sebastian, Spain), Eythos (Hong Kong, China), Art Basel (Hong Kong, China), Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac (Seoul, Korea), Halle 14 (Leipzig, Germany), Galerie Barbara Thumm (Berlin,Germany), Galerie 100 Kubik (Cologne, Germany), Berlin State Museums (Berlin, Germany), Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, among others.

From 2012 to 2022 he has been working as artistic director at Thikwa Werkstatt für Theater und Kunst.
